Fluminense visit FGR
Representatives of Brazilian club Fluminense came to Nailsworth to see our recent match against Harrogate.
For those not familiar, Fluminense are based in Rio de Janeiro and are one of Brazil and South America’s biggest club sides. They play at the iconic Maracana stadium in Rio. The club are the current South American club champions, having won the Copa Libertadores in 2023, beating Argentina’s Boca Juniors in the final. They recently played Manchester City to contest the World Club final (the Manchester club came out on top in this one-off game).
Representatives from Fluminense are in the UK visiting a few English Clubs, including Manchester United, Exeter City and Derby County. They were also keen to come to Forest Green to find out what makes FGR the greenest football club in the world.
The representatives were led by Ricardo Calcado, in charge of International Relations/Partnerships at Fluminense. All those that had the chance to chat to our Brazilian friends came to the same view – they were both delightful company and fantastic representatives of their club and their country. ‘Volte logo’ Ricardo (come again soon!).

Fluminense’s Maracana stadium holds the record for attendance at a football match at around 200,000. Nowadays, the capacity has been scaled down.
