Match Preview – FGR vs Ilminster Town Ladies (2pm – 03/04/22)

FGR are at home for their penultimate league fixture of the 2021/22 season as they host league leaders Ilminster Ladies on Sunday 03 April for a 2pm kick off.

Last Time Out For FGR

FGR won emphatically at Marine Academy Plymouth as a 7-0 win moved FGR in to the top half of the table as the season reaches its final stages. Goals came from Boyd, Fensome, Pound, Rowlands and hattrick hero Hattie Jones.

The Opposition

Ilminster have proved over the duration of the season they are a very good team and currently sit on top of the table. They have 12 wins, 2 draws and only 1 defeat in the league this season and have shown incredible consistency. Their only defeat came last weekend to St Austell and Ilminster will be keen to return to winning ways.

FGR last faced Ilminster back in November in a 5-2 defeat, but should go into the match keen to test themselves against the table toppers, having shown that they are capable of competing with any team at this level over the course of the season. Indeed FGR have earned plaudits from other sides for being one of the best teams from a technical perspective.

Rovers will also be buoyed by their two recent results and the chance to seal a top half finish in their first season back at this level.

Ones To Watch

Ilminster are made up of a very strong team and squad, which is why they sit at the top of the table. In front of goal Jodi Cornwall and Abigail Carslake have both scored 18 goals and will need to be closely watched by the FGR defence. At the other end of the pitch Charlotte Johnson is a very good goalkeeper, whilst first team regulars Kelly, Meyer, Stuckey and Pettinger all play important roles.

Looking Further Ahead

FGR are set to face Bristol Rovers Women on the 23rd April at the Memorial Stadium in Bristol. The match will follow on from the two men’s team’s League 2 fixture earlier in the same afternoon as part of a double header.

FGR then finish their season off at home to promotion chasing St Austell to bring an end to FGRs league campaign on 1st May.
