FGR return to action on Sunday 06 March with an away trip to Bishops Lydeard in the reverse fixture of last Sunday’s 3-1 defeat at home.

Last Time Out For FGR

FGR hosted Bishops Lydeard last time out – their first game since 06 February due to weather affecting fixtures. Any concern that FGR might be a little rusty was soon forgotten as FGR found some nice passages of play in the opening stages of the game.

It took a fine save from FGRs goalkeeper Beca Woods to deny Caitlin Berry from opening the scoring for Bishops Lydeard in a one on one, before Rowlands put FGR in front. A superb FGR move saw Fensome pick the ball up on the centre spot before turning and feeding Rucker down the right with an excellent through ball. Rucker then ran past the Lydeard full back before squaring across the goalmouth with a delightful cross for Rowlands to take her goal tally to double figures.

Lydeard equalised through Caitlin Berry who ran on to a long ball before calmly beating Woods in the FGR goal in another one on one.  The impressive Berry would go on to score a brace with Shelby Overington also scoring. The match finished 3-1 to the Somerset side, but only after Faith Pound, who impressed as a substitute down the left wing, had set Rucker away who had seemed to set Rowlands up for the 2nd time only for the goal to be disallowed for off side.

Our Opponents – Bishops Lydeard

Julie Bowker who has been in the Bishops Lydeard managerial position for over 20 years is well respected for her contribution to grass roots football.

Bishops Lydeard play in red and black stripes with a purple away strip and currently sit 7th in the league table – one place and 3 points behind FGR, but still with a game in hand.

Lydeard impressed onlookers last week, with a strong team that was also able to use their pace and passing to good effect.

Ones to watch

Ahead of the last match we highlighted Caitlin Berry as one to watch and her two goals last time out highlights how FGR will have to try and restrict her from getting opportunities to find the net.

Bishops Lydeard showed last week how they are a strong team across the pitch and they have benefited from having a lot of regular starters such as the talented Holly Meakins, Holly Miller and Hollie-Mae Golding this season.

Looking Further Ahead

FGR only have 3 further fixtures after their visit to Bishops Lydeard.

vs Marine Academy Plymouth (away) 20/03/22

vs Ilminster Town (home) 03/04/22

vs AFC St Austell (home) 01/05/22
