Match Preview – FGR vs Bristol Rovers Women (away) – 6.45pm | 23 April

FGR head out on the road for a friendly fixture with Bristol Rovers Women FC at the Memorial Stadium in Bristol. The friendly fixture is part of a double header, following on from the men’s teams League 2 fixture earlier in the day.

Last Time Out For FGR

FGR put in a strong performance as they defeated table toppers Ilminster Town 3-0. FGR were very impressive as they moved the ball around well, with all three goals coming in a high paced and energetic first half before the side managed the game well in the second half to see out the game.

It was a brilliant win which secures FGRs top half finish in the league at the first time of asking back in the 5th tier of women’s football. Goals came from Rucker, Rowlands and Pound as the team delivered one of their strongest performances of the season as Woods kept a clean sheet with Morris particularly impressive in defence.

The Opposition

Bristol Rovers Women are managed by Nathan Hallet-Young who is also one of the founding members of BRFC Women. The side have been playing in the South West Regional Womens Football League Northern Division – one tier below FGR. The Gas have had a successful season, finishing as champions with 14 wins, one draw and one defeat from their 16 matches. Their title winning season should see them promoted to the Premier Division where they will face FGR competitively in 2022/23.

Ones To Watch

Zoe Fielden-Stewart is the club’s top scorer with 19 goals and will be a threat going forward, as will Annys Turner. Midfield ever-present Katie Rawlings will also be one to keep an eye on.
