FGR Ambassador, Martha, gives her thoughts on the Swindon game
We welcomed Swindon Town to the New Lawn on Tuesday. I was lucky enough to read out the team sheets as part of my ambassador role! I was very happy to see 2 previous FGR players in the starting line up, Jake Young and Udoka Godwin-Malife. FGR got off to a great start and after about 15 minutes we took the lead with a super shot from our Champ, Matty Stevens! As the game went on the referee seemed to make some very odd decisions. Jordan Moore-Taylor was badly challenged in what could have been a very serious injury! And only a yellow card given!!! But we managed to hold on to the lead into half time.
Second half went down hill rapidly. Almost instantly, Swindon equalised and the ref was handing out yellow cards like it was candy! Harvey Bunker took a second yellow for a tug on a shirt and he was sent off. Luke Daniels was sensational and made some top saves. The boys held on right until stoppage time when we sadly conceded a second and the game finished 1-2 in Swindon’s favour. The boys showed real determination and the style of play was sensational after a season of heavy defeats almost weekly last season. All in all a great performance from David and his team!
After the game we had arranged to See Udoka (Dokes) for a chat and to say goodbye. FGR or Swindon, Dokes has always made time for me and is a genuinely nice guy who will always be remembered for helping us take the league 2 title in 21/22.
