Guy Lloyd was from Chelmsford in Essex and developed an interest in Forest Green Rovers through his brother, Hugh. Hugh lived in Nailsworth and worked for Renishaw in Wotton.
Guy travelled to FGR’s game at Cambridge Utd on 7th September but suffered a cardiac arrest at the ground and passed away 2 days later.
Guy’s funeral was in October and his sister Philippa tells us that; “At the funeral the Minister did announce that the family wanted to put on record how touched we were by the kindness and thoughtfulness of everyone at Forest Green Rovers and Cambridge United in the days and weeks after Guy’s death. Guy was always football mad….. Arsenal were Guy’s great love from 1965 onwards when he went to university in London then first worked there until his company moved to Chelmsford and so Guy also moved to live there, but Chelmsford is within easy reach of London for Arsenal matches and, until recent years with some health issues, Guy also went to Arsenal away matches all over the UK and Europe.”
The photo is of Guy opening a Christmas present of an FGR scarf in 2005 from his brother and his sister in law, Jo. Jo was editor of the Nailsworth News during her time in Nailsworth and took Guy to the New Lawn on a number of occasions. Philippa says that Guy ” was greatly looking forward to taking the trip to Cambridge to see Forest Green play on 7 September” and she notes ” the incredible kindness and solidarity shown to him as a fellow football fan by everyone at Forest Green Rovers.”
Rest in peace, Guy.
