Supporters Club response to reported racial abuse

The Supporters Club are disappointed to hear of a report of a racist incident involving a Forest Green Rovers fan in the East Stand during our match against Scunthorpe.

The allegation of racist behaviour at the home match against Scunthorpe has been a shock to us all. This is not the FGR we have come to know and love. We often talk of the football club, as being the players, the owner(s), the manager and most importantly, the fans. The allegation is that a fan has let us all down.
Our words have meaning and power. People in football crowds shout out through emotion or to gain attention. If they have not thought through what they are shouting out and why, and it is offensive, then they must face the consequences.
As others in the crowd we have responsibilities – to challenge such offensive behaviour and to report it.
Please always remember and remind others where necessary, that  everyone has the right to be treated with dignity and respect, and we should all be committed to eliminating all forms of discrimination, as well as all forms of bullying, harassment and victimisation.
