Swindon’s nickname, The Robins (supposedly because of their ‘redbreasted’ kit) is also the nickname of Cheltenham Town and Bristol City.

Swindon striker Eoin Doyle was named League 2’s player of the month in November 2019 (Eoin was also player of the month for October). Eoin is currenly on loan from Bradford City. Manager Richie Wellens was League 2’s manager of the month for November.

Famous Swindon managers include, Glenn Hoddle, Lou Macari, Ossie Ardiles, Paolo Di Cannio and Dennis Wise.

Swindon have played in all 4 of the top leagues. They were a Premiership side in 1994 but by 2006 they had become the first former Premiership side to be relegated to the lowest football league division.

Swindon fans consider their main rivals to be Oxford Utd.

In 1951 Swindon became the first club in the league to install floodlights at their ground.
